CitiWide's HOME (Housing Ourselves and Maintaining Environments) program provides
permanent housing placement with an emphasis on participant choice. We find decent
and secure housing with that extra something special that will make an apartment a
home. Once a participant chooses a permanent housing option, our stabilization and
support services ensure that the transition into their new home is safe and smooth.
It’s hard to find affordable housing for our participants. We are always looking for welcoming and forward-thinking landlords and real estate brokers who believe that decent housing is a right—not a priviledge.
HOME Managers make follow-up visits such as, taking a participant to lunch or bringing a lamp to compliment the living room decor. Social workers ensure that a well thought out service plan has been designed for short and long term plans.
Permanent housing reduces the shelter costs of homelessness by one-third, resulting in substantial savings to New York City and its citizens. In 2005, over 350 participants were served by HOME, including 100 new placements in permanent housing and stabilization support for those already at home.
