Nací en Puerto Rico y me crié en el Bronx. Me diagnosticaron con la hepatitis C en 2001.
La primera vez que vine a CitiWide fue en el 1995, el año en que fue fundado. Conocí a Brian Weil, el fundador. Era un tipo fabuloso. En ese entonces yo estaba usando heroína y cocaína y venia a buscar jeringuillas limpias aquí.
Bueno, dejé de usar la heroína y la cocaína hace ocho años. He estado fuera de la metadona nueve meses. Yo trabajo de noche ayudando a mi hermano producir comerciales pero todavía vengo aquí todos los días. Es como una comunidad, un refugio seguro. El mismo tipo ha estado en la recepción desde el primer día. Ayudo a limpiar y a servir la comida, también ayudo a la gente tomar duchas. Asisto al grupo de VIH y la hepatitis C. Tomé la clase de fotografía que dura cuatro semanas. Me puedo quedar dormido aquí y no me pasa nada. Bueno, una vez cuando me quedé dormido con la boca abierta, me pusieron una cereza en la boca y me tomaron una foto.

“I was still getting high, but I began to reduce.” VICTOR
 I came to CitiWide ten years ago, to improve my life. After I moved to New York from Puerto Rico, I was living in SROs. The hotels were loud, dirty, and I was using a lot. One day, I brought myself over to CitiWide, and started going to groups. I was still getting high, but I began to reduce – instead of using five days a week, I cut back to four. Getting into the HOME program really changed things. With CitiWide’s help, I found a great apartment in a quiet area, and have been living there ever since.
Having my own place has really transformed my life. I needed an apartment so I could to get and stay clean; I needed a place where my family could live too. Even now, I still come to CitiWide. I like the staff, and besides, all my friends come here. I will never forget what this place has done for me.
